5 Days Marangu Route

Trip Overview

Because it can be finished in a few days and features permanent sleep shelters at the campgrounds, the Coca-Cola Route, also known as the Marangu Route, is more well-liked. This is regarded as one of the simplest paths to the peak because of its straightforward trail and gentle grade. While you relish the adventure of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, our knowledgeable guides will make sure everything goes according to plan from beginning to end.

The paths are more direct than others, therefore acclimatisation may be a little more challenging because the journey is only five days long. The difficult nighttime ascent from Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak goes through Gilman’s Point. It has a lower summit success rate since it is a shorter route with a steeper ascent and less time for acclimatisation.

Day 1: Arrival Day

Our expert driver guide who is native to Tanzania will meet you at the airport, either Kilimanjaro International or Arusha, and will provide you crucial information about your trip and itinerary. He will assist you in packing and organising your belongings before he takes you to the hotel for the night, dinner, and relaxation. Your driver guide will regale you with the greatest anecdotes and cultural insights about Tanzania and its people as you travel to the hotel.

Day 2: Marangu Gate To Mandara Huts

Leave Moshi/Arusha for Marangu Gate after breakfast. As numerous crews get ready for the journey ahead, we will watch the hustle and bustle of activities and wait patiently for the issue of our licences. You may take in the breathtaking rainforest landscape and winding trails while your guide teaches you about the area flora, fauna, and wildlife. At these lower elevations, the trail can become muddy and treacherous. It is strongly advised to bring hiking poles and gaiters here.

Day 3: Horombo Huts to Kibo Huts

Once breakfast is finished, we keep climbing through the dying heathland, which turns into a lunar landscape as you reach the broad saddle that joins Mawenzi and Kibo. Here, during our lunch break, you can study the summit ascent up Kibo that you will commence in a few hours, and later when you cross this unexpectedly large saddle.

Day 4 : Kibo Huts Summits

Switchbacking up the ascent, we try not to become too cold and concentrate on the amazing feeling of achievement that lies ahead of us. We switchback uphill via severe scree and maybe snow to Gillman’s Point on the crater rim. An amazing sunrise will greet you during your short stay here. More rapid hikers might be able to catch the sunrise from the top. The final hour of your trek to Uhuru Peak will almost certainly be spent in the snow.

Congratulations! You have arrived at Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa and on Mount Kilimanjaro!

After pictures, celebrations, and maybe even a few happy tears, we take a minute to relish this amazing achievement. We start our long descent towards Mweka Camp, stopping at Barafu for a quick rest and lunch. We highly advocate using hiking poles and gaiters on difficult terrain that includes loose gravel and volcanic ash. Have a great last night on the mountain and get some much-needed sleep. Spend the night at Mweka Camp.

Day 5: Horombo Huts to Marangu

After breakfast and a moving ritual of gratitude and team building with your staff, it’s time to say farewell. We keep going downhill, pausing at the Mandara Huts for lunch. You’ll be leaving your guides, cooks, and porters behind, so don’t forget to tip them. In order to retrieve your summit credentials, go back to the Marangu Park Gate. Because of the warmer weather, the terrain is hilly, muddy, and rainy; gaiters and trekking poles are highly recommended. You will be picked up at the gate by a car that will take you back to your Moshi or Arusha accommodation.
