7 Days Machame Route
Trip Overview
This is the path we suggest if you wish to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for the first time and have an amazing experience. Hiking the Machame route—also referred to as the “Whisky route”—will raise your chances of arriving at the highest point in Africa. Some sections of the Machame path are steeper than those of the Marangu, Rongai, and Lemosho routes.
Of all the Kilimanjaro routes, the Machame route is the busiest because to its popularity and success rates. In addition, the Machame path offers the greatest views of the mountain and the best experience for acclimatisation. The five climatic zones offer favourable weather conditions that maximise the chances of summit achievement for visitors.

Day 2 Machame Gate to Machame Camp
Soon after breakfast in the morning, the trip to Machame Gate commences. When you arrive at the hotel, your guide and the rest of the crew will greet you and get you ready for the trip. Once the hotel checkout process is finished, the crew gets into the car and drives to Machame gate. The team will welcome you with a big smile and a few inspirational songs in Kilimanjaro’s native Swahili language.
Before entering the park, guests and staff must register at the entrance upon arrival. This will let the authorities maintain tabs on all park users and tourists. You will receive a hot towel and hot water to wash your body when you get to Machame Camp.
Day 3 Shira Camp Cave to Lava Tower To Barranco
From Shira Camp, keep going east along the ridge, crossing the intersection leading to Kibo Peak. The route veers southeast as you go, first taking you to Lava Tower and subsequently Barranco Camp.
Since climbers will be walking up to altitude research and spending the night at altitude study at Barranco Campsite, this is a great day to acclimatise and experience the differences in altitude on Kilimanjaro. Lava Towa Camp will serve lunch, and Barranco Camp will serve dinner.
Day 4 Barranco Camp to Karanga
The morning walk up the Barranco wall to Karanga camp starts after breakfast. To ensure that you have enough time to recover after the wall, we advise you to depart the camp as soon as possible. Because it only takes an hour and a half to reach the top, climbing the wall is not tough. In addition to providing fantastic photo ops, the Barranco wall offers an amazing view of the Barranco Valley.
Trekking to 4670 metres above sea level, Karanga Campsite is more of a climbing experience and a good way to warm up before ascending to the top of Kilimanjaro. A typical 5 mile trek in this area takes four to five hours.
Day 5 Karanga Camp to Barafu
Following breakfast, you start your 5-kilometer trek from Karanga Campsite to Barafu Campsite, which is located 4670 metres above sea level. The hike should take you four to five hours to complete. The Barafu Campsite will serve lunch and dinner.
You’ll have enough time on this day to recover, acclimatise and be ready for tomorrow’s aro00:00 am00am summit walk.
Day 6 Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak
Around 2:00 a.m., your head guide and the aid guide will lead you to the top, and skilled porters will be carrying light-colored backpacks with your essentials for the summit. It’s a challenging walk to the top that calls for both physical and mental stamina.
You will pause briefly at 5,756-meter Stella Point, where you will be rewarded with the most breathtaking sunrise you have ever seen. Snow may fall during your hour-long climb to the summit. At Uhuru Peak, you have reached the highest point on both the African continent and Mount Kilimanjaro. For those who walk more quickly, the summit will offer views of the sunrise. After lunch at Barafu, we head straight down from the summit to the Mweka Hut camp site.
Day 7: Mweka Hut To Mweka Gate
We will go down to Mweka Gate after breakfast, where you will pick up your certificate for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. At lower levels, the terrain is typically wet and slick, so it’s advised to wear gaiters and use your walking poles just to support your body and prevent falls. You will enjoy a hot lunch at Mweka Gate and toast to your final day among the whole crew. The celebration and lunch will be followed by the start of the drive to Arusha/Moshi.
